Content Driven Websites

Content Driven Websites - Step 4

Implement Website

Fortunately, implementing a website is not nearly as arduous, expensive and time-consuming as in days past. Using online editing tools (also known as content management systems) such as Village CMS means that you can edit content independently of the design. In addition, by using templates, search engine optimization and analytics can automatically be built into the website without the editor needing to perform specific tasks.

Implementation is now often the least time-consuming aspect of building a site—it can take only few days, rather than weeks or months.

In addition, websites can offer multiple services such as invoicing, shopping carts, simple or complex forms, and mailing lists, all available through the use of "Software as a Service" options. From the user’s perspective, these services all appear to be on one website.

Perhaps most importantly, this approach ensures that we no longer have to burden overworked web designers or developers with simple maintenance tasks such as uploading or editing content, and editors do not have to learn complicated or inflexible software programs to update a website.

Congratulations. You are on your way to giving birth to a brand new website.

You worked hard to create your website, or to bring another creator’s website to life. Make sure you support the creator! The purpose of a website is to support to original creator, and content driven websites do that. Working backwards towards the central content is not the best method. This leads to many websites with the same cookie cutter design. Content is the art direction, and it should inform your designer’s entire process. The process may seem tedious, but if content comes first, you are more likely to end up with a website the drives traffic, delivers on expectations, and reinforces your brand, with fewer headaches and unexpected expenses. You wouldn’t want to pay for a top-notch design that turns out not to fit with your content – the content that customers are visiting your website for! The content determines everything about your website, and it determines why you need a website. The content is enhanced by the design, and it needs to come first.
