Content Driven Websites

New Website for Sterling Combustion

Sterling CombustionSterling Combustion delivers energy-efficient burners and boilers for commercial and industrial clients. Often, potential customers asked for more information and expected to be directed to Sterling’s website. Unfortunately, Sterling didn’t have a website and lacked the expertise to develop a solution in-house. They turned to Northern Village to guide them in the right direction.

Northern Village began by gathering all of Sterling’s available marketing material, documentation, and proposals, and placing this into a content-driven prototype in the Raconteur Editing Room where it was easily reviewed and organized.

At the conception of the project, Sterling’s management anticipated that the website would provide a simple overview of their services, with details on specific products as required.

However, as more information was added to the prototype, and as the editing process continued, a distinct theme began to emerge. Sterling’s practice is to take numerous photos for each of their installations, documenting the entire process. Sterling and Northern Village organized these photos into stories, along with associated text. These stories then became the focus of the site.

Guided by Northern Village’s content-driven approach, Sterling was able to clearly define an effective and powerful site structure without getting lost in the design. Once their focus was clear, the site was implemented in a design that effectively complemented their content.
